I explore
different techniques, including, almost always,
the qualities of found and manipulated two or
three dimensional objects or textural
components. All these materials turned into
colors, shapes, lines and textures, sometimes
hidden but still existing somewhere between the
layers of paint - oil, acrylic or whatever,
create an impression that things are often not
what they seem, giving rise to doubt in the
reality of the visible. Starting out as a
surrealist and still trying to follow the ideas
of this great movement I feel that my work is
getting more and more abstract - though the last
thing I care about is if I get representative or
abstract

Alex was born in 1964 in
Tbilisi, Georgia.
He graduated in 1988 from Tbilisi
State Academy of Fine Arts with a diploma in
Graphic Design and went on to graduate from
Glasgow School of Art under a post-graduate
exchange program in 1997. Alex was awarded the
John Murray Thomson Award by the President and
the Awards Committie of the 2000 Royal Scottish
Academy Annual Exhibition

well as showing in Tbilisi, Alex has shown
Internationally in group shows since 1990 in
Barcelona, Glasgow, Moscow, London, Edinburgh
Arizona (USA), and in the Netherlands Alex has
had solo shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Tbilisi. |
