When I started painting, I had one little child and another was on it's way. At that time I had to paint the happy feelings of being a mother and becoming a mother for the second time. But...happiness isn't always predominate in my life. My life is also influenced by other people, events, memories, stories, doubts, thoughts, (day)dreams and images

I'm trying to translate and visualize these influences, coming to me through all my senses, as clear as I can into paintings. Painting them in the colors as my feelings recall.

I'm not really inspired or influenced by other artists, but there is one person I admire in particular, the Austrian painter and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser, because he literally colors the world.

My inspiration is my own life.

Born in 1951 in Tilburg, Els has lived and worked in The Hague, in The Netherlands, since 1983. She studied illustrative art at the "Koninklijke Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving" in 's-Hertogenbosch.

From de "Werkschuit" in Amsterdam she went to the "Vrije Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten" in The Hague, where she specialised in the art of screenprinting.

Her screenprints have been exhibited in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. Levi's Benelux b.v. gave her an assignment to make a series of screenprints with "Jeans Art" as subject.

Since 1995 she specialises in painting with acrylic on cotton.

Her paintings find their origin in the artist being a woman and the images of an imprisoned existence; the housewife (mother) at home (with her kids), the working woman planning and making her career. It is not for nothing that one of her paintings is named "Jail". The last couple of years Els has had exhibitions (solo as well as group) in The Hague, Rotterdam, Groenlo and Hoorn in The Netherlands; Antwerp in Belgium and Bjarred and Malmo in Sweden.

Her art has been bought by both enterprises and individuals and has been published in a.o. Janus Head journal (USA).
